how to use Sharkworld
How to use Sharkworld for your project management training
Sharkworld allows aspiring project managers to experiment and gain experience with key aspects of project management in a highly entertaining and motivating setting. This online game creates a convincing virtual environment in which a project is developed in real time, urging the management trainee to interfere when things go wrong, or preferably, before they do. Several suspense scenarios increase the entertainment value of the game. The game covers economic aspects of project management, and also social aspects, such as conflict management and diplomatic skills. Interaction takes place in real life, by real life means.

option 1: Sharkworld is played @home / @work prior to training
Sharkworld can be played at home or during office / school hours as a preparation to the project management training.
- Participants needs 3 to 4 hours of ‘play’ or ‘learning’ time. It is advised to play Sharkworld in 2 x 2 hours.
- Make sure that participants do have the time available for this homework session. It’s sometimes difficult to motivate people to do home work, because of other priorities (but they might get stimulated by their colleagues participants who already started the game).
Advantage:
- Participants can play anytime, any place, any where
- Participants have a fun and engaging ‘homework’ session prior to your project management training
- Participants have a similar experience where you can refer to during the project management training
- You save travel and classroom hours.
option 2: Sharkworld is played @work/school during the training
It’s also possible to play Sharkworld in the classroom during training hours. This offers the opportunity to play the game to a certain level, then reflect with the class or in groups on a specific subject in the game (for example: risk management, team management, cultural sensitivity or stake holder management).
- Depending on the content and duration of the program participants can play one or two levels at one training session.
- Use Sharkworld as a case in your training material
- All participants need their own computer / email / mobile phone
Advantage:
- Participants can reflect with their peers about the cases in the game
- Trainer can offer a nice balance between theory and cases.
- Participants have a similar experience where you can refer to during the project management training
